Ouija Board Possession: Is It Real?

Yet another person has found herself allegedly possessed after using a Ouija board, but this time there’s a twist: the board wasn’t real, it was a smartphone app.

18-year-old Patricia Quispe of Chosica, Peru used the unidentified Ouija board app one evening with a group of friends. There’s no word on whether or not they actually made contact with anything, but later that night, Quispe’s parents noticed her behaving oddly – “convulsing and foaming around the mouth,” according to the Internet’s pillar of truth and integrity, The Daily Mail.

Her parents, for their part, believed she was simply ill, but after contacting her friends they learned about her interactions with the spirit board. She was quickly taken to the hospital, and a video surfaced of the young woman being treated by medical staff.

Witnesses reported that her personality and voice changed, with the woman shrieking “Let me go!” and invoking the devil while medical staff tried their best to restrain a now “extremely strong” Quispe. She was later sent to the psychiatric ward.

The Signs of Possession

A similar event occurred last year in Mexico, after a group of three friends also dared to play with a Ouija board. The video that arrived with that story was very similar to the one we see today – a woman restrained as she growls and cackles.

As it turned out, however, the woman in that case had ingested Brugmansia, which induces powerful hallucinations and altered states of consciousness, and is often used during spiritual ceremonies.

It’s possible that something along those lines happened with Quispe, as well. However, whether the two women were affected by hallucinogens or not, many do believe that Ouija boards pose a great danger to anyone who uses them. From spirits attempting to break out of the boards, to conjuring the terrifying entity Zozo, they warn that it’s best to simply avoid them altogether.
