On Sunday, February 21, 2021, the crew of American Airlines Flight 2292 reported a “long cylindrical object” in the skies over New Mexico, flying above them at around 37,000 feet. The pilot radioed air control to see if anything else was up there with them.
“Do you have any targets up here? We just had something go right over the top of us…I hate to say this but it looked like a long cylindrical object that almost looked like a cruise missile type of thing moving really fast. It went right over the top of us.”
The encounter occurred at around 1:19 p.m. CST, and the passenger jet eventually landed in Phoenix, Arizona without incident. However, details regarding the possible UFO sighting are still, shall we say, up in the air.
According to Fox News, American Airlines confirmed the authenticity of the radio transmission, and also told them to take any other questions directly to the FBI. A spokesperson from the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico, some 400 miles away from the incident, also confirmed there were no tests being performed at that time. The FAA later put out a short official statement: “A pilot reported seeing an object over New Mexico shortly after noon local time on Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021. FAA air traffic controllers did not see any object in the area on their radarscopes.”
