The French actor Paul Mounet was born in 1847. By age 32, he had given up his studies as a doctor to pursue acting, and debuted at the Odéon-Théâtre de l’Europe at Paris in 1880. He then went on to star in several films, including 1909’s Macbeth.
He lived a rather long life, until he died suddenly in 1922, a victim of heart disease.
That’s what everyone was led to believe at the time, anyway.
Today, in fact, many claim that the actor Paul Mounet is alive and well, still performing in movies. Movies like Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure, The Matrix, and John Wick. But he goes by a different name, these days.
I’m talking, of course, about actor Keanu Reeves.
Keanu Reeves, Immortal?
This curious legend of the immortal Keanu first appeared on October 13, 2009, when a YouTube channel uploaded the following video. It claims that Mounet actually died “under unusual circumstances,” and that no body was ever recovered.
So what really happened?
The video draws the reasonable conclusion, given the evidence, that Mounet is actually either a vampire or an immortal (or, perhaps, both).
He didn’t die, but rather disappeared, if only for a while. After enough time had passed, he took up the alias Keanu Reeves and began appearing in films again in the 1980s.
Strange things are afoot at the Circle K
Ever since that video appeared, many have wondered if this could actually be possible. After all, everyone has always remarked on how Keanu Reeves never seems to age, or at least does so slowly, perhaps at will. And there are other small tells, if you pay attention.
For example, as many have pointed out, during an interview in 2003, Reeves stated:
“Money is the last thing I think about. I could live on what I have already made for the next few centuries.”
That would certainly be very useful to an immortal.
Over time, more evidence has appeared, proving, perhaps, that there’s even more to Reeves than meets the eye. For example, this painting from the early 1500s, titled “Portrait of a Man,” by the artist Parmigianino.
It’s of an anonymous individual who looks very much like Keanu Reeves, and can currently be found hanging in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, Italy.
Interesting, wouldn’t you say?
Woah.
Of course, you could also say that Keanu is starting to look his age. But you can’t expect Mounet, or whatever his true name is, to stick around with one persona forever. It would be too obvious, and, as we’ve explored in this brief article, people have already become suspicious.
It’s highly doubtful, as well, the Mounet was his first alias – that video up there also draws a connection to Charlemagne, with whom it’s said he bears an uncanny resemblance. In fact, Ziggy Wikipedia tells me his burial was unnecessarily “hurried.”
Hmm.
No, I suspect he’ll eventually disappear again when he feels his job is done, as he has many times before. Like Pete’s Dragon or E.T. the Extraterrestrial. He’ll regenerate, then resurface after another 50 or 60 years, when he thinks we need him most.
Whatever the case, be him an ageless vampire, a time traveler, or the Count of St. Germain himself, one thing remains certain: The Internet is a very weird place.
