Paranormal Activity on Set of Poltergeist Remake, Claims Director

The original Poltergeist movie, released in 1982, spawned what many now refer to as the Poltergeist Curse. A curse which, if the legends are true, led to many strange experiences on set, as well as the untimely deaths of four cast members who worked on the trilogy from 1982 to 1988.

Why a curse? Some say it was the use of real skeletons during scenes in Poltergeist I and II. But I suppose you can never be too sure.

Now, the director of this year’s Poltergeist reboot, Gil Kenan, has claimed (during a Reddit AMA on April 1, so hold on to your hats) that, once again, unexplained activity has occurred on set. When asked on Reddit if anything “scary or unnerving” happened while filming, Kenan replied:

“…the location for the house, during shooting, I chose because it had a strange and unnecessary field that the houses of this particular community were built around. And we found – throughout production – that we had persistent and repeatable equipment field only on that strange plot of land.

For instance, lights that could turn on anywhere else in the neighborhood would blow out the second you’d try to light them on this plot.”

I’ll leave you to wonder what, exactly, an “unnecessary field” is. Kenan also went on to claim that the house he stayed at during production was also haunted – by a mysterious lady in black.

“…I became aware of her within the first few days of staying in the house. And only after I left did I receive a call from the previous owner, who had moved back in, who was terrified by the goings on in the house, and wanted to see if I had experienced any of it. So it was an incredible real-life inspiration for filming that followed me home.”

Is this simple marketing? Or a true case of otherworldly phenomena? I suppose the best thing to do is hope it’s the former, because I don’t imagine anyone would enjoy a curse…
