UFO Allegedly Releases Orb Over Southern California

A video uploaded to YouTube on January 5, 2015 appears to show an unidentified object falling from the sky in Southern California. A meteor? Perhaps. But in the video, something very odd happens: An orb appears to jettison from the object.

While the video is no longer available, you can view a discussion of it here. Ken Roberts, who uploaded the original footage, had this to say in the description:

“I was driving home after work when this UFO or whatever you call it caught my eye. I pulled over in front of somebody’s house to film it. I would have got a better shot but I didn’t want to jump these peoples fence. Anyway I don’t know what the hell to make of it. Couldn’t have been a plane cause there was no noise. And I never heard a crash after either. The Orb thing flew straight up into the sky and disappeared. Sorry I didn’t film that. I didn’t know what to focus my attention on.”

I originally saw this posted on Reddit, where the conversation naturally turned to just what are we looking at? The video’s title mentions a “UFO crashing,” perhaps implying an alien craft.

Some raised the possibility of a meteor, though others pointed out that most meteors, as they fall through the atmosphere, fall rather quickly. This object, whatever it is, appears to fall slowly in comparison. This could be due to the viewing angle, or the object could be space debris of some kind.

As for the “orb,” that’s another matter of debate. Many believe it’s a meteor or other kind of debris, and not paranormal in nature. The orb does, however, appear to move upward, and in the description Roberts claims it “flew straight up into the sky.” Of course, the video could just be a hoax, as others on Reddit suggest. But I’ll leave that for you to decide.
