On September 11, 1997, a man claiming to have worked at Area 51 called in to Coast to Coast AM. He spoke with the frenzied voice of a man terrified for his life, describing “extra-dimensional” beings and secret plots that would drastically, and horrifically, change our world.
Most peculiar of all, however, was the fact that during the call, the satellite transmission carrying Coast to Coast AM was lost, baffling Art Bell and his listeners.
Seven months later, on April 28, 1998, Art Bell received another call, purportedly by the same man. This time, however, he claimed the initial call was a hoax. Ever since, there’s been a lot of debate surrounding these calls. Was the first call real? Or had it truly been someone testing out “wacky characters” on the Coast to Coast AM audience, as the second caller claimed?

Like I said, there’s a lot of debate about these calls. Were they real? Were both callers the same person?
It’s possible both calls were “fake,” with the first being a hoax and the second being an entirely different person trying to insert himself into the spotlight (their voices do sound somewhat different to me). It’s possible the first call was real (I mean, it’s possible), and the second call was part of some kind of cover-up. Or it’s possible that both calls were the same person, and everything said in the second call was true.
Pick your poison, but don’t forget that the satellite went out during the call. That was pretty weird.
Anyway, whether or not either call was real, I can’t say. But the urgency and seriousness in the first caller’s voice seemed believable at the time, and certainly made for a compelling broadcast.
