John Titor: The Secret Song

I’ve always found the relationship between John Titor and Pamela intriguing. It’s like any good adventure story, you know? Like The Doctor and his companions, John Titor had a single confidant with whom he shared information that, to this day, remains unknown to the public.

Of course, you may be wondering how we can trust any of this. How do we even know that Pamela is telling the truth?

Well, I see what you mean: it’s difficult to separate truth from fiction, particularly on the Internet. You just have to take Pamela’s word for it. And besides, like I’ve always said, I view the John Titor saga as a story or an urban legend.

It’s a lot more fun that way, and a lot less frustrating. There are things I ignore about the story, as well, like anything that happened after he stopped posting.

Anyway…

The Secret Song

John Titor vanished on March 24, 2001, when it’s assumed he began his journey home. He hasn’t been heard from since, as far as we can tell, and so we’re left only with his forum posts, chat logs, and a few imposters along the way.

But there’s one thing Titor left behind, just in case he ever found himself on our worldline again. One thing that would verify his identity, one thing that would prevent anyone else from claiming to be the “real” John Titor.

The secret song.

As the story goes, Titor shared the name of a song in an online chat between himself and Pamela, to be used as a “code word” if he ever returned. Only he and Pamela know the song, and as Pamela has said, there are “a few things I must keep secret so if john ever decides to come forth I will have the info to confirm it was the same John who posted as John Titor.”

To this day, only Pamela knows the secret song, and no one has come forward with the correct answer.

Will John Titor ever return?

John and Pamela’s Infinite Playlist

I’ve always imagined Titor’s song to be Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now. You know, 1970s, “traveling at the speed of light.” I picture John Titor climbing into his car, punching a cassette tape into the player, and listening while his time machine revs up and he (slowly) blasts off into another worldline.

I mean, that’s just how I see it.

But what do you think? Just for fun, leave your ideas for John Titor’s secret song in the comments.

What kind of music would a time traveler listen to, anyway? Titor mentioned he was familiar with the Blue Oyster Cult, so there’s that.
