Google Maps Anomalies: Did a UFO Crash in Antarctica?

A Russian UFO researcher, Valentin Degterev, has found what he believes to be evidence of a wrecked extraterrestrial craft in Antarctica.

How’d he find it? While browsing satellite images on Google Maps, of course. He shared the coordinates with the world earlier this week: 80°34’08.4″S 30°05’19.3″W. Click the link to check it out for yourself, or view the map below.

From a certain point of view, the “object” could look like a disc somewhat buried in the snow, as if it cut through the ice when it fell. Some of the images floating around, which have been sharpened, do make it look a bit like a flying saucer.

According to The Daily Mail, Degterev “is adamant the hole…cannot be explained by anything from this planet,” and he believes it’s “the most genuine UFO in its most classic shape.”

Skeptics, however, are fairly convinced that the “object” is instead just a crevasse – an opening or crack in the ice. The satellite image dates back to February 15, 2012, so whatever it is has been there for at least over three years (if it’s still there at all, that is).

But wait – Antarctica is known for its mysteries. Many conspiracies surround the events of 1946-1947 and a military exercise known as Operation Highjump. Some of the images from that operation tell a strange story, indeed…
